Sion Sono

Toyokawa, 1961. Director, writer and poet. He is best known for his movie Love Exposure (2008), and has been calles the most subversive japanese filmmaker of our times. Sono started his poet career in 1978. His poems were published in popular japanese publications such as The Modern Peom Book. Later, he enrolled atthe Hosei University, but left midterm in order to stark making 8mm films. In 1958, he made his debut at the Film PIA Festival with his experimental shortfilm I am Sion Sono!, which has him reading some extracts fom his poetry. In 1987, he colaborated in the movie A Man's Hamamichi, and won the Grand Prize. After receiving a PIA scolarship, Sono made his debut feature film in 16 mm, Bicycle Sights (1990), which co-wrote, directed and acted in it. Sion Siono has also written several moviess, such as Keiko Desuked (1997) (a film about the lonlely life of a waitress). In 1998 he made the short film KAze and in 2001 he directed and wrote, in an amazing two weeks, which would later be his most successful movie to date, Suicide Club (2008). In 2008 he also wrote the popular film Love Exposure, which won several prizes and was highly acclaimed worlwide. He directed the Lord of Chaos film inspired and worked on the Cold Fish thriller. Since 1993, Sono has always written and supervised the soundtracks for his movies alongside his cameraman, Otsuka Yuichiro. His movie, Himizu, made the official selection for the 2011 Venice Film Festival.
